I have been working in the psychological field for over ten years. My past training includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Mindfulness Training, Family Therapy, Systems Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. I truly enjoy working with clients to help them reach their goals. The human potential always amazes me.
Counselling is provided for Individuals, Couples, Family's, Children, Adolescents and Individuals with Developmental Disabilities. I provide a solution focused approach which incorporates Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, and Mindfulness Training.
All sessions are client led, with a focus of helping the client reach their personal goal. Sessions are an hour in length, and can be scheduled during the day or in the evening. Sessions cost $150 per hour
This approach has been shown to be the most effective treatment for anxiety, depression, self harming behaviours, anger management, stress reduction, and many other difficulties . It is based on the idea that our thoughts cause our feelings and behaviours. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy is brief, based on research, and has been shown to be greatly effective. As a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist I incorporate an educational model which allows for the client to develop the skills needed to create long lasting change.
Mindfulness Training focuses on teaching the skill of being present. It has been shown to be effective for helping people with depression, anxiety, high stress levels, anger, pain management and other mental health conditions. It teaches the skill of not allowing one's mind to get cluttered with worries about the future, or guilt about the past. Mindfulness teaches relaxation skills, and different way of seeing the world.
Individual Sessions focus on the needs of the client. They are Solution Focused, with a Cognitive Behaviour Therapeutic Approach, and teaching of relaxation skills. This approach allows client's to reach their goals quickly.
Children's counselling focuses on giving children a safe place to express themselves. During counselling a Cognitive Behaviour Model, and relaxation skills are used to help children understand their emotions, thoughts, and physical symptoms. Children learn skills to be able to control their emotions, and change how they react to situations. Parents are provided with information each session to help support children to integrate the skills learnt into their day to day lives.
Adolescent Counselling can help adolescents work through body image issues, anxiety, depression, stress, parental divorce, peer relationships, bullying and other issues. By incorporating Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Mindfulness Training teenagers can gain skills to better regulate their emotions. This can lead to better academic success, family relationships and increased self esteem.
Counselling for Individuals with Developmental Delays focus on the client's goals and needs. Cognitive Behaviour Techniques are used to help the clients become successful in reaching their goals. Counselling can include case consultations with outside agencies and families. This allows for all those supporting the individual to be aware of the skills the individual is working on, and work collaboratively on skill development.
Couples Counselling focuses on developing skills to navigate relationship highs and lows. All relationships change over time. During counselling there is a focus on reconnecting, and feeling appreciated and loved within the
relationship. Sessions focus on helping couples change the way they communicate to ensure they both feel heard, and understood.
Premarital Counselling focuses on helping couples have the hard discussions prior to getting married. It allows for couple to develop a realistic view of marriage and the skills needed to stay strong as a couple.
Family Counselling focuses on helping families to reconnect and develop stronger relationships. It helps to create a positive atmosphere in the home, work through discipline difficulties, help adolescents and children better control their emotions.
Parent Consultations can help parents to develop the skills to better manage children's behaviours. As a believer of positive approaches to parenting, sessions will help parents better understand the stage the child is in, and positives ways to help their children to be successful. This approach leads to increased listening by children with decreased yelling by parents.
Blended families come with a whole different set of stressors. It can be difficult to integrate both families traditions, values and beliefs. Parenting approaches may be different. These new relationships can be fragile. Counselling can help to navigate through this process, and ensure every member of the family is feeling supported, and loved.
Adoption is a wonderful experience but can come with difficulties. It can be difficult to integrate the child into your family. The child may come with a history of difficulties that can cause him or her to have trouble trusting, building relationships and feeling safe. These behaviours can impact the family structure. Counselling will focus on helping the family understand each others needs, creating strong bonds, and ensuring all members feel safe and supported.
